Earl Norris Axvig

Earl N. Axvig, age 73 of Adams, North Dakota passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Earl Norris Axvig was born February 17, 1946 in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Troftgruben) Axvig.  He grew up on his parents’ farm near Adams.  He attended the rural Silvesta School and graduated from Adams High School.  In 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1968.  He returned to the farm with his father and brother, farming small grain, ranching and raising registered Angus cattle.  Earl was united in marriage to Marsha Fjeld on June 27, 1970 in Park River, North Dakota.  The couple made their home on the Axvig farm near Adams.  In 1980, Earl and Marsha moved their family to Hobson, Montana to work on an Angus Ranch.  They returned to the family farm in 1985.  He worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Osnabrock.  After retiring from farming he began to help area farmers and his son-in-law, Brandon during harvest.  Marsha passed away September 12, 2010.  Earl moved to Adams in 2012, where he continued to make his home until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church, the North Dakota Angus Association, the Stockman’s Association and was a 4-H leader.  He loved spending time with his family, raising his Angus Cattle, farming, baling and hunting.

Earl is survived by his children:  Matthew (Emi) Axvig, Tokyo, Japan; Michelle (Harley) Blegen, Roundup, MT; Sally (Brandon) Larson, Hoople, ND; grandchildren:  Hope Axvig, Hayden Blegen, Christopher Blegen, Cody Blegen, Hank Blegen, Kristen Larson, Joseph Larson, Megan Larson and James Larson; great grandson, Houston Blegen; brother, Jerome (Claudia) Axvig, Moorhead, MN; sister, Joleen (Frank) Swartz, Park River, ND; partner, Lois McKenny, Adams, ND.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marsha, sisters: Addie Kreklau and Irma Hurtt.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mountain Lutheran Church of Adams, ND.  Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 at the church.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams, ND.  Military Rites will be provided by the Lankin American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
