Duane L. Henriksen, age 73 of Grafton, passed away on Wednesday September 19, 2001, at United Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota. Duane LeRoy Henriksen was born December 28, 1927, at Rolla, North Dakota, the son of Amy Virginia Johanna (Hendrickson) and Peter Elias Henriksen. He grew up in the Rocklake, North Dakota area and attended the Saginaw and Mount Pleasant Schools in Towner County. He worked with his dad on the farm and began farming on his own at the age of 18, near Calvin, North Dakota. Duane was married to Una Mae Lewis on December 28, 1945, at his uncle’s house near Sarles. The couple made their home on the farm at Calvin where they continued to farm until his retirement in 1986. Duane and Una spent winters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho from 1979 until 1986 and moved to their new home in Grafton in 1987. They had spent winters in the Phoenix area the past several years.
Duane loved farming, from the smell of the freshly tilled earth in the spring through harvest and plowing in the fall. After moving off the farm he and Una spent a good part of their summers at the farm. He also enjoyed hunting and the past several years he enjoyed goose hunting at the farm with his old friends and brother-in-law Buell Lewis of Phoenix. He was a long-time member of the Glenila Presbyterian Church at Calvin and currently a member of the Federated Church in Grafton and of the Federated Church Men’s Club.
Surviving are his wife Una of Grafton daughters Cynthia Henriksen of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Susan (Scott) Knutson of Chandler, Arizona; son Terrance (Mary) of Grafton; his mother Amy (Paul) Murdock of Chinook, Montana; step-mother Gladys Henriksen of Harrison, Idaho; sisters Ruth (Lowell) Rohs of Scottsdale, AZ; Peggy (Merritt) Larson of Calvin, ND; Iris Issler of Harrison, Idaho; brothers Larry (Fran) Henriksen of Moscow, Idaho and Rolland (Sis) Murdock of Harlem, Montana, grandchildren Gale (Edwin) Krogfoss and Kristi Mishler, both of Grand Forks; Sheri Henriksen of Phoenix; Sara Fladeland of Salt Lake City, Utah; Alexis and Ariana Dudley, both of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Dustin Dudley of Seattle, WA as well as 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
