Drew Ashton Lien, age 18 of Grafton and formerly of Park River passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
Drew was born on October 18, 2000 at St. Ansgars Hospital in Park River, ND to Ryan Lien and Amanda Askim. He grew up in Park River and also in Grafton with his parents and help from his grandparents and his uncles. Drew attended school in Park River and loved to play hockey for the Park River Red Machine and later the GPR Spoilers. Drew was a good kid, good friend and great helper to those in need. Drew played a big part in caring for his grandma Sharon with her battle against cancer. He loved his friends and he loved his family. He loved to have fun and play video games. He had a passion for cooking and wanted to go to culinary school. He was working on finishing his schooling online for his high school diploma and everyone was so proud of him.
Drew is survived by his father Ryan (Heidi) Lien, Park River, ND and their children: Peyton, Alexis, Kiera, Karter, and Sutter, maternal grandparents: Arlyn and Veronica Askim, Park River, ND, uncles: Curtis (Ashley) Askim and Lily of Lankin, ND and Ryan Askim of Lankin, brother Gunnar (Kory Kalgard) of Park River, Heidi’s dad Dean (Carol) Monson, Cooperstown, ND and Heidi’s mom Becky of Hatton. Several aunts and cousins also survive. Drew was preceded in death by his mother Amanda, nephew Liam Askim, paternal grandparents Ray and Sharon Lien and his great grandparents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Hoff Lutheran Cemetery of Rural Adams, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
