Dr. Phyllis W. Cowger, age 96 of Park River, ND passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Valley 4000, Woodside Village in Grand Forks. Phyllis E. Weber was born October 28, 1915 in Cook County, Il, the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Murphy) Weber. She grew up and attended school in Chicago, graduating Suma Cum Laude from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL. She was united in marriage to Dr. William Evan Cowger in 1934 in Waukegan, IL. The couple then moved to Grand Forks where they lived for a year before moving to Park River in 1937. They owned and operated the Cowger Chiropractic Clinic. The couple raised their thirteen children in Park River. Dr. W.E. passed away September 17, 1962 and Phyllis operated the family business until her retirement in 1987. Phyllis made her home in Park River until she moved to Valley Elder Care in 2007. Phyllis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Park River, an organist for 40 years, Girl Scout leader, member of the ND Chiropractic Association for over 50 years, member of the NDCA board of directors for 20 years, president in 1981 of NDCA, and band booster organizer and president in the 60's. Phyllis is survived her children: Roberta Allen, Park River, ND; Richard (Zaundra) Cowger, Nisswa, MN; Mary (Jorgen) Dahl, Golden Valley, MN; Audrey (Orville) Wilhelm, Bottineau, ND; Jane Cowger, Fargo, ND; Ruth (Bob) Hagel, Fargo, ND; Patricia Sexton, Seattle, WA; Joan Cowger, Grand Forks, ND; John (Lynette) Cowger, Grand Forks, ND; Bob (Judy) Cowger, Grand Forks, ND; Mark (Deb) Cowger, East Grand Forks, MN, 27 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, sons: William Lane and William Thadd, brother Edmund Weber, and sister Loyola Audrey Weber. A mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River with a prayer service at 4:30 P.M. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, Chicago, Il, and St. Gianna's Maternity Home, Warsaw.
