Dr. Gerard A. Dahl

Gerard A. Dahl, DVM, age 75 of Park River, ND passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 near Park River, ND from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Gerard Albin Dahl was born December 4, 1941 in Willmar, MN the son of the late Albin and Hannah (Ytterboe) Dahl. He was baptized at his grandmother Ytterboe’s home. He was confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. He attended rural school and graduated from Atwater High school. He attended the University of Minnesota and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1966. Following his education he worked in New Rockford, ND until 1968 when he moved to Park River and joined Dr. Sturlaugson at the Park River Veterinary Clinic. It has been said that “Doc” knew every dogs name from Grand Forks to Bismarck!

Dr. Dahl was a lifetime member of the North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association and Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. He was also an honorary member of the Walsh County Livestock Association, Northeast North Dakota Pioneer Machinery Association, the North Dakota Stockman’s Association, North Dakota Veterinary Association where he was named Vet of the Year in 2015 and the Sons of Norway Vaarliv Lodge #486, where he served as Past President, and made three trips to Norway. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He loved to collect antique cars, old tractors and a steam engine. He had a passion for the Park River Bible Camp and never missed a lutefisk dinner.

Doc is survived by his siblings: Barb (Lowell) Anderson, Clara City, MN; Richard Dahl, Annandale, MN; Nieces and nephews: Lois (Bruce) Nelson, Craig and Russ, Tim (Denise) Anderson, Shaun, Nathan, Sierra, Nate, Brooklyn, Dalton, Gregory, Stephanie, Jocelyn, Collin and Rylan; Tom (Dawn) Anderson, Nicole and Travis; Bryan (Christa) Dahl and Braylen; DeDe (Jason) Puncochar, Makai, Kenli; and his good friend, Harlen Grovom. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Barb Dahl and niece, Bethany Dahl.

Memorial services will be Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Park River Bible Camp, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Bible Camp. Friends may also call at the Bible Camp and Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Internment will be at the Palmyra Cemetery in Bird Island, MN.
