Dorothy S. Thomasson, age 91 of Gardar, ND passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital of Cavalier, ND. Dorothy S. Arason was born January 21, 1918 in Edinburg, ND the daughter of the late Frederick and Augusta (Laifur) Arason. She attended schools in Edinburg, Neche, and Bathgate and graduated from Mountain High School in 1934. She married Johann Thomasson on November 28, 1937 in Mountain, ND. The couple lived in Gardar for a time and then in the early 40's they purchased a farm near Edinburg, ND. In 1946 the couple purchased a farm west of Gardar and has made their home there since. Johann passed away on January 15, 1981.

Dorothy was a member of the Pembina Hills Lutheran Church, Gardar, member and officer of the Gardar Homemakers, the Gardar Ladies Aide. She served as an assistant 4-H Leader and was an active China Painter. She also served with the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home Auxiliary. For the last several years Dorothy has been compiling the history of the Gardar Community.

She is survived by her children: Doreen (Floyd) McLeod, Milton, ND; Fred (Susan) Thomasson, Park River, ND; Robert (Denise) Thomasson, Gardar, ND; seven grandchildren; Michelle (Bill) Waslaski, Jolyn (Jay) Greenwood, Kristi (Brent) Hertz, Jim (Jessica) Thomasson, Kathleen (Paul) Gross, Johann Thomasson, Sarah Thomasson, Great grandchildren: Matthew & Christopher Savageau, Nathan Waslaski, Erin King, Cassidy King, Morgan Lafferty, Floyd Althoff, Tara (Matthew) Grams, Mason & Miranda Hertz, Colton & Zachary Thomasson and McKenna Gross, sisters: Aileen Jaehning and Lois Parkman both of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 7-9 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg and Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Gardar Cemetery.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg is in charge of the arrangements.
