Dorothy Martell, age 91 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Mary Dorothy Martell was born October 13, 1924 in River Falls, WI, the daughter of the late Flavien and Mary Florence (Gartland) Martell. She moved to North Dakota as a child and graduated from Grafton High School in 1942. She served in the US Navy from 1945-1947. Following her discharge she returned to Grafton. She worked as the Walsh County Clerk of Court for many years before retiring.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, the Grafton V.F.W. and the Grafton American Legion Post #41. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and was an angel to her nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is survived by her siblings: Sr. Betty Martell, OSF, Little Falls, MN, Jack (Jean) Martell, Ennis, TX, Joann Reyna, Waterloo, IA, Pat (Raymond) Roloff, Cedar Rapids, IA, Billie Martell, Iowa City, IA, and Michael Martell, Iowa City, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters: Sr. Jeanette Martell, OSF and Yvonne Martell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military Rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton.
