Dorothy M Karas

March 26, 1945 — October 6, 2018

Dorothy Mary Karas, age 73, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at First Care Health Center after a long battle with cancer.  Dorothy was born on March 26, 1945, to Joe and Julia Dub of Park River, ND. She was raised on the family farm, attended Vernon Township School #56, graduated from Walsh County Agricultural School, and worked in banks in Park River and Grafton.  She was united in holy marriage to Jack Karas on October 1, 1966. Besides farming alongside Jack on the family farm near Lankin, ND, Dorothy worked many years as a CNA and physical therapy restorative aide at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. She served many years as a religious education teacher and altar society member at her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lankin. Jack and Dorothy had three children: Becky (Brent) Nelson, Grafton, ND; Tim (Lorie) Karas, Bemidji, MN; and Sarah (Jared) Wang, Nampa, Idaho.  She also had ten grandchildren: Jared, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Seth, Hailey, Jaiden, Luke, Logan, Jacek, and Josafina.

Dorothy’s pride and joy was her family.  She was a hardworking, lovable, and generous woman who loved her family more than life itself. She would often share her cooking, baking and canning talents with her family and friends and would never turn down a game of Racehorse Pinochle with family. Animals also held a dear spot in her heart, resulting in many pets, large and small, on the family farm.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered not only by her husband, her children and their spouses, and her grandchildren, but also by her sister Elaine (Myron) Vareberg, Shakopee, MN; brother Dan (Delores) Dub, Pisek, ND; brother Jim (Monica) Dub, Park River, ND; sister Mary Brown, Spring, TX; sister-in-law Patsy Karas, Larimore, ND; sister-in-law Mary (Larry) Greicar, Grand Forks; sister-in-law Evonne (Hancel) Altendorf, Grafton; and brother-in-law Randy (Doris) Karas, Lakota; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Jack’s parents, John and Alice Karas; her brothers Billy and Joseph (Wayne) Dub; and brothers-in-law David Karas and Fred Brown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and again on Thursday for one hour prior to the service, all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
