Dorothy Gozdal Olson

Dorothy Gozdal Olson, age 97 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Dorothy F. Osowski was born January 20, 1922 in Minto, ND, the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Osowski.  She attended school in Minto and Acton Country School.  She worked on the farm and in the cook car during harvest.  She was united in marriage to Alfred Gozdal on October 14, 1941 in Warsaw, ND. They farmed and raised many animals until Alfred’s death on February 2, 1969.  Dorothy married Lawrence Olson on September 30, 1972 at St. Edward’s in Drayton, ND. Dorothy and Lawrence moved to Grafton.  She worked at the State School and Unity Hospital in the housekeeping department.  Upon retirement, Dorothy and Lawrence traveled the US, enjoying every new place their adventures would take them.

Dorothy was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton and St. Edward’s Catholic Church of Drayton and Altar Societies.  She loved to crochet, quilt, and sew.  She loved getting together with friends for Card Club and she will be remembered fondly for her delicious pies.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Ray (Judie) Gozdal, Drayton, ND, Andrew (Eunice) Gozdal, Drayton, ND; step-children: Eileen DePoe, Marilyn (Dale) Haug, and Ronna Olson; 4 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother: Hiladore (Pauline) Osowski; sisters: Florence French, Oakwood, ND and Lillian Verstrate, Portland, OR; sister in law: Jeanette Osowski, Grafton, ND; and brother in law: Dwain Schrank.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Alfred Gozdal and Lawrence Olson; siblings: Ambrose (Helen) Osowski, Hilary Osowski, Leo (MaryAnn) Osowski, Mary Ann Schrank, Martha (Victor) Roberts, and brothers in law: Charles French and Les Verstrate; stepchildren: Larry Olson and David DePoe.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 10:30 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery of Drayton.
