Dorothy Arlouine Doktor, age 97 of Park River, ND, formerly of Hoople, ND and Chicago, IL passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Dorothy Arlouine Schaetzel was born April 14, 1921 in Wimbelton, ND, the daughter of the Late William and Eleanor (Hurtt) Schaetzel. She moved with her family to a farm near Hoople in 1924. She graduated from Hoople High School in May, 1939. She was confirmed in the Hoople Methodist Church. She worked at home on the farm for a year and then attended Fletcher College in University Park, Iowa for one year. She graduated from Bismarck Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in April, 1944. She was a nurse in Seattle, WA, Berkley, CA and Oakland, CA from 1944 to 1949. She then moved to Chicago, IL and worked as a nurse at Franklin Boulevard Community Hospital until she retired in January, 1985. She was united in marriage to Dr. Walter Doktor on April 18, 1959 in Oak Park, IL. Walter passed away in July, 1982. In her retirement years, she was very active as an officer on her condo board in Chicago. Her condo was considered to be one of the best maintained units around, largely due to her efforts.
She very much loved flowers and animals and the farm she grew up on. Dorothy loved to travel and visited many places in the United States and abroad. She was a very kind and caring person.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Apalona Kiser, Park River, ND; nephew, Michael (Myrna) Kiser, Ada, MN; niece, Susan (Tim) Johnson, Park River, ND and grand nephew, Camden O’Toole, Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Schaetzel, brother, Phillip Schaetzel, husband, Walter Doktor and brother-in-law, Donald Kiser.
