Doris S. Johnson, age 77 of Park River, formerly of Grafton, passed away Saturday, March 05, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.

Doris Ardelle Svaren was born June 16, 1938 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of the late Erling and Lillie (Ackerson) Svaren. She was baptized and confirmed at Elk Valley Lutheran Church, rural McCanna, ND. She graduated from Niagara High School as the Valedictorian of her class. She then attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Forks, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1958. She was united in marriage on September 21, 1958 to Marvin Hoverson at Elk Valley Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born: Melvin, Merle, Lenard and Betty. The couple made their home south of Fordville where they farmed for 24 years. Doris was united in marriage to Laverne Johnson on December 19, 1986. The couple made their home in Crystal, ND. Laverne passed away November 2000. She worked for Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier; Grafton Developmental Center and Grafton Migrant Health. Doris retired and moved to Grafton in 2004 where she lived until moving to the Park River Good Samaritan Center on November 20, 2015.

She was a member of the Crystal United Methodist Church, Crystal, ND. She enjoyed keeping up with her family, reading, traveling, playing cards, learning family history and was very patriotic.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Betty (Mark) Gudmunsen, Center, ND; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Cassie (Josh) Goetz and their children: Lily and Arabelle Goetz, Washburn, ND and Kyle (Mindi) Gudmunsen, Hazen, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laverne; siblings: Harold (Muriel) Svaren, Evelyn (Donald) Lanes, Gene (Calvin) Veitch and Stanley Svaren.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Elk Valley Lutheran Church, rural McCanna, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Elk Valley Lutheran Cemetery, in the spring.
