Doris Jackson

Doris A. Jackson, age 83 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Grafton, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Woodside Village of Grand Forks.

Doris Haug was born September 20, 1934 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Helmer and Nellie (Widness) Haug. She was baptized and confirmed at the Landstad Lutheran Church of Auburn, ND. She attended the Martin Township #67 one room school house through 8th grade, and later attended school in Grafton where she graduated high school. She was united in marriage to Bruce Jackson on August 1, 1952. The couple lived in Grafton, Minot, and Grand Forks, ND. In 1960, they returned to Grafton where she helped Bruce with the sale of Bernina sewing machines. Doris had learned to sew at an early age from her aunt Gina and continued to hone her skills throughout the years. She did alterations for many and was known throughout the county as an accomplished seamstress. The couple retired in 2014 and moved to Grand Forks. Bruce passed away on April 4, 2016 and she moved into Woodside Village in November of 2017.

She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and WELCA. Lunches were always ready during the school year for grandchildren and friends and the coffee pot was always on. She was a social person who made friends wherever her journey took her.

Doris is survived by her daughters: Bonnie Elde and Carol Papenfuss, both of Grand Forks, ND, grandchildren: Korey (Wendy) Elde, Kelly Elde, Scott (Toni) Elde, Tim (Sarah) Elde, Christopher (Rebecca) Papenfuss, Jana (Austin) Theisen; great grandchildren: Brooke, Ethan, Ty, Carter, Kyia, Chloe, Leyton, and Aliza; siblings: Donna Fisher, Grafton, ND, Hazel Coulthart, Grafton, ND, Judy (Mark) Holt, Grafton, ND, Norman Haug, Grand Forks, ND, and Donnie (Diane) Haug, Grafton, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bruce, brothers-in-law Allen Fisher and Glenn Coulthart and sister-in-law Sharon Haug.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.
