Doris L. Haug, age 96 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Doris Lillian Strommen was born February 12, 1923 in Crosby, ND the daughter of the late Ole and Olia (Roa) Strommen. She lived in Crosby until her father’s untimely death which required the family to move to Adams, ND to be closer to family. She attended school in Adams and graduated valedictorian of her class. Doris worked at the Bellerud Store in Adams before her marriage to Thilfer Lykken on Nov. 6, 1944. They lived and farmed in Cavalier County where they raised their three children. They were members of Hitterdahl Lutheran Church. Doris was a member of the Ladies Aid, Sunday School Supt and treasurer. She belonged to the Friendly Homemakers Club of rural Milton and was a 4-H leader and a Farmers Union Youth Study Club Teacher.
Thilfer passed away in August of 1969 and Doris remained on the farm until her marriage to James Haug on June 9, 1973. They lived and farmed near Edinburg most of their married life until they moved to the Edinburg Apartments. They belonged to the Odalen Lutheran Church of rural Edinburg and later joined Trinity Lutheran in Edinburg. She was a member of the WELCA, Senior Citizens and the Bible Study Group. Doris and James traveled through most of the United States and enjoyed bowling league. Her other hobbies included crocheting, reading, baking, flower gardening and scrabble. James passed away on October 28, 2017.
Doris is survived by her children: Terry (JoAnn) Lykken, West Fargo, ND; Cynthia (Kenneth) Gross, Gold Canyon, AZ; Sheila (Earl) Sanders, Osnabrock, ND; her grandchildren: Jeremy Lykken, Jonathan Sanders, Ryan Lykken, Stephanie Sanford, Suzanne Bott, Ross Lykken, Michael Gross and Matthew Gross; her great grandchildren: Dylan Bott, Alex Bott and James Gross. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters: Thelma Flom, Luella Flom, Stella Myrvik and brother, Gerald Strommen.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 29, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams, ND.
