Doris Jean Bylin went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND at the age of 88 years.
Doris Jean Berg was born March 10, 1928 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Henry and Mina (Elton) Berg. She grew up in Adams, ND and graduated from Adams Public School in 1946. She attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College and taught at the Askim School, rural Lankin for one year. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo from 1947-48 and worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Farmer’s Union, Adams Public School and Rodney Olson Potato Company.
Doris was united in marriage to Arthur Curtis Bylin on January 2, 1949 at Adams Mountain Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed near Adams. After Art’s death on August 11, 1966, she continued to farm. Later, she remained involved in her sons’ and grandsons’ farming.
Doris was a member of Sarepta Lutheran Church, serving as pianist for nearly 50 years. After Sarepta’s closure, her membership was transferred to Mountain Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA, Sunday school and the church quilters.
Doris centered her life around her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards with dear friends, sewing, quilting, crocheting, doing yard work, playing piano and attending Bible study. Her cookies, lefse and homemade “grandma buns” were infamous to all of her family.
Doris is survived by her sons: Jan Bylin, Fargo, ND; Lory (Beth) Bylin, Adams, ND; daughter, Julie Bylin, Kingston, WA; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Bylin, Adams, ND; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; siblings: Janet Hagen, Thief River Falls, MN; Roland (Marlene) Berg, Overland Park, KS and many other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mina Berg, husband Arthur Curtis Bylin and sons: Daniel Curtis Bylin and Arthur Kim Bylin.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sarepta Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams. The family would like to extend its appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this time.
