Doreen Elaine Nelson, age 75 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center, Park River, ND.
Doreen Elaine Einarson was born March 23, 1942 in Langdon, ND the daughter of the late Ole and Ethel (Bjarnason) Einarson of Milton, ND, the youngest of eleven children. She grew up and attended school in Milton until her 9th grade year, which she attended in Seattle, WA then returned to graduate from Milton High School in 1960. After graduation she attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, receiving her Registered Nursing degree. Doreen returned home and was united in marriage to Irvin Nelson on December 27, 1963 in Mountain. They lived in Kenosha, WI for 14 years and had their three boys there. Doreen and her family returned to North Dakota to farm at Union in 1977. Doreen spent 41 years as a Registered Nurse caring for others. She worked in OB, OR, ER, clinical, hospital, home health, and nursing home care, which she retired from in 2010.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Milton American Legion Auxiliary, long-time director with Fjalla Lutheran Church rural Milton, served on the Edinburg School Board, and taught Sunday school in Edinburg for many years. Doreen loved animals of all kinds, especially cats.
Doreen is survived by her sons: Lynn (Thressa) Nelson, Edinburg, ND; Chris (Malinda) Nelson, Milton, ND and Scott Nelson, Edinburg, ND; grandson, Brody Nelson; step-grandchildren: Damin and Elaine Nygard; sisters: Joyce Tongen, Mountain, ND; Beverly Bleakley, Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law: Angela Peterson, Beverly Hammer, and Sherry Nelson. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Julia Klindt, Lorraine Chaput, Olivia Veer, Fern Stabo, Mavis Akset, Bill Einarson, Dennis Einarson, and Inga Einarson.
Memorial Services will be Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Union, ND, in the spring.
