Donna Lea Haug, age 92 of Adams, ND passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Woodside Village of Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks.
Donna Lea was born June 2, 1924, on the Hammerstad farm west of Edinburg, ND to the late George Gemmill and Sarah (Hammerstad Gemmill) Schissler. She lived on the farm until graduating from Edinburg High School in 1942. She then attended the University of Minnesota for a year before entering Northwest Institute of Medical Technology.
Her first job after school was in Terra Haute, Indiana where she worked in a hospital as a Medical Technician. She returned to Minneapolis where she was employed as technician in the Deaconess Hospital for several years and later for a private Obstetrical Clinic in The Medical Arts Building, downtown Minneapolis. Donna worked there until she married Glenn Haug on January 3, 1949, in Edinburg. She was a lifelong member of Odalen Lutheran Church, rural Edinburg, and Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg.
Donna spent the past 68 years on the family farm north of Adams. She was known for her ability to cook and bake and loved playing the piano in her free time. Donna was thrilled by several trips with family to the Rocky Mountains of Montana and Canada, and also the yearly visits to Bemidji. She enjoyed working with Glenn on their hobby of making stained glass lamps and window displays.
Donna is survived by her husband Glenn Haug; Children: Gary (Lucinda) Haug, Minneapolis, MN; Constance (Jack) Shull, Hackensack, MN; and Stuart Haug, Hackensack, MN; Grandchildren: Christian Shull, Catherine (Enrico Zito) Shull, Julie (Jeremy) Day, Brandon (Allisa) Haug, Eli Haug, Kristina Haug, Kostya Haug and Katya (Robert) Grissom; Nine great-grandchildren: Austin, Alex, Adam, and Parker Day; Cohen and Aiden Haug, Megan Grissom, Marquis Bankhead, and Maia Rice. Sisters-in-law: Irma Gemmill (Fordville), Lorna Haug (West Fargo), and Anne Puppe (Cavalier), and Brother-in-law James (Doris) Haug (Edinburg).
Donna was preceded in death by her mother and father and brothers-in-law Norris Haug, Floyd Gemmill, and Earl Puppe, and great-grandson Dominic Rice.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Odalen Lutheran Cemetery rural Edinburg.
