Donalda M. Bigwood, age 76 of St. Thomas, ND passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at her home in St. Thomas.
Donalda Mae Dickson was born July 6, 1932 in Grafton, ND the eldest daughter of Albert and Dina (Collins) Dickson. She graduated from High School in Hoople, ND and graduated from Mayville State Teachers College with a teaching certificate. She taught school in Crystal, ND prior to her marriage to James J. Bigwood on June 15, 1957 in Hoople. The couple lived and farmed near St. Thomas. She worked as a substitute teacher in St. Thomas. James passed away on October 12, 1995.
Donalda was a member of the St. Thomas United Methodist Church where she served as church organist for a number of years. She was a member of the UMW and served on several church committees. She was also a member of the North Dakota Pork Producers Association and the North Dakota China Painters Guild. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, word find puzzles, reading and Sioux Hockey.
She is survived by her children: Scott Bigwood, Grafton, ND and Susan Bigwood, St. Thomas, ND; brother George (Carol) Dickson, Sioux Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son and sister Letitia.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Thomas United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Thomas City Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
