Donald M. Almen passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at ManorCare Health Center in Fargo, ND at the age of 91.
Donald M. Almen was born June 23, 1926 in Fertile Township, ND, the son of the late Carl Oscar and Glora (Hove) Almen. He attended a rural one room school through 8th grade and high school in Grafton. He married Leota (Lee) Sutter in Cooperstown, ND in 1950.
Don and Lee enjoyed traveling, curling, golf, dancing, and winters in Texas. He loved music and played both guitar and piano. He was a member of South Trinity Lutheran Church.
Don’s lifelong passion was farming. He worked to expand his farm acreage and crop variety. Even in his last week of life, he called friends and discussed farming. Anywhere crops were growing he took an interest. Thankfully he took seriously the steps of repentance and faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. The seed of the gospel took root in the field of this farmer’s heart.
Due to medical events in his life, he has donated his body to the UND School of Medicine. Donald (Don) Almen, absent from the body, now present with the Lord.
Don is survived by his children Barbara (Jim) Osvold, Detroit Lakes, MN and David (Verna) Almen, Cayo District, Belize, his grandchildren: Lisa (Jeremy) Jensen, Moorhead, MN, Jon (Amber) Almen, Kingsport, TN, Steven (Jen) Osvold, Moorhead, MN, Sarah (David) Booth, Montijo, Portugal, Jason (Katie) Osvold, Fargo, ND; 12 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Marvis Weiser, Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his wife Lee, parents Oscar and Glora and his brother Ken.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date at the South Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
