Dennis E. Skorheim

September 2, 1927 — December 13, 2014

Dennis E. Skorheim, 87 of Park River and formerly of Adams, ND passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 of cancer, peacefully at home with his family at his side. Dennis Everett Skorheim was born Sept. 2, 1927 in Dwight, ND the son of the late Ole Henry (H.O.) and Tilda (Johnson) Skorheim. He lived in Dwight until 1935 when the family moved to the Hoff Farm near Adams, ND. He attended Hoff School District #70 until the 8th grade and graduated from Adams Public School in 1945. From 1946 till the fall of 1950 he worked for Hendrickson Construction Company of Adams, ND. On Dec. 3, 1950 he entered the United States Army, serving in Korea from April 1951 to March of 1952 with the 31st Infantry, discharging in Oct. 1952 with the rank of Staff Sgt. Serving his country was the one thing he was very proud of and we should all be glad to live in this country and to remember all those who gave their lives so you can enjoy yours. Dennis went into a farming partnership with his brother Bud for 30 years. They raised small grains and milked on the average 75 dairy cows. He later farmed with his son Dennis for ten years after the partnership dissolved. He married Frances (Bogstie) White on Feb. 14, 1956. They were married for 33 years. After the death of Fran he married Arnola (Bjorg) Evje on Dec. 4, 1993. The couple made their home in Park River during the summer months and winter months in Apache Wells, Mesa, AZ until 2013. Dennis was very proud of being a life member of the Qualley-Dvorak American Legion and building the Veterans Memorial Wall in Adams. He was Outstanding Young Farmer in 1958. He loved being a 4-H Leader for over 20 years. He was very instrumental in getting the Hoff School District #70 on the National Register and refurbishing it. He served on many boards, such as the Hoff Lutheran Church Council all his life, Adams School Board for 12 years, Livestock Association, Dairy Herd Organization, Walsh County Fair Board, Hillcrest Golf Club, Adams Bowling Alley, just to name a few. He enjoyed serving his community. We have so many treasured memories of our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle and will hold them in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Arnola of Park River, ND; son Dennis (Julie), Adams, ND; daughters: Deborah (Charles) Novak, Lankin, ND; Denise (John) Bata, Adams, ND; Rita (Ronald) Beneda, Park River, ND; Mary Skorheim (Fiancé Todd Heffta), Grand Forks, ND; daughter-in-law, Jill Skorheim, Park River, ND. 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two on the way, two step-sons: Bruce (Susan) Evje, Carston, RI; Brent Evje, Fairdale, ND; three step grandchildren; brothers: Harvey Skorheim, Hutchinson, MN; Raymond (Viola) Skorheim, Minot, ND; Donald Skorheim, Grafton, ND; sister-in-law, Verna Delle Skorheim, Park River, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
