David Victor Siewert

May 7, 1949 — March 16, 2017

David Victor Siewert, 67 of St. Thomas, ND passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his daughters and loving family.

David Victor Siewert was born May 7, 1949 in Grafton, ND the son of Wayne and Donna (Dusterhoft) Siewert. He grew up and attended schools in St. Thomas, ND. He was drafted and served bravely in Vietnam and was awarded several medals. David married Marlene Martineau in 1968 and though they divorced in 1996 they continued to be friends. David owned and operated his own trucking business and farmed with his father.

David enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He was extremely proud of his daughter’s accomplishments and took every opportunity to tell others about them. He loved his horses and various farm animals, which he treated like pets. Even after being diagnosed with lung cancer, his sense of humor never wavered. When asked if he wanted to add something to his obituary he stated, “That he was a good dude”. He lived on the family farm and died peacefully in his home, joking to the end that he wanted to be buried by the barn with Thunder, their horse from childhood.

David is survived by his children: Krysti Sapp and Emily (Matt) Paschke, both of Grand Forks, ND; Leah (Ryan) Oberg, Moorhead, MN; and Katie Collette, Novi, MI; grandchildren: Asya Bradley, Kurt Collette, Cordeau Sapp, his great grandson, Ryder Bradley, his mother, Donna Siewert, St. Thomas, ND; his brothers: Dennis Siewert, Fargo, ND; Daniel Siewert, Grand Forks, ND; sisters: Denise (Dennis) Sevigny, Grafton, ND and Diane (Paul) Schuster, Manvel, ND. He was preceded in death by his father Wayne and brother, Douglas Siewert.
