David J. Mongeon

David J. Mongeon, age 80 of Grafton, North Dakota, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the First Care Health Center, Park River, North Dakota.

David J. Mongeon was born August 7, 1945 in Rolette, North Dakota, the son of the late Ernest and Pearl (Breslin) Mongeon. He attended school in Rolette. After his schooling he began farming with his father until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and returned to Rolette to continue farming with is dad. Through mutual friends David became pen pals with Victoria Basom. David and Victoria were united in marriage on June 24, 1974 in Commerce City, Colorado. The couple moved to Belcourt, ND following their marriage. They later moved to Rolla, ND and in 1992 they moved to Park River where David worked for area farmers. In 2020, the couple moved to Grafton where they continued to make their home. Victoria passed away January 7, 2023.

He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. He was also a member of the Rolla Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed puzzles, reading, going for walks, Elvis, looking at Farm Equipment, watching Jeopardy and going to church.

David is survived by his daughters: Brenda (Marcel) Denault, St. Thomas, ND; Kimberly (Derek Ensrude) Mongeon, Darla (Dustin Matcha) Mongeon, Veseleyville, ND; his grandchildren: Angie Lee, Joey Mongeon, Zackery Denault, Jasmine Denault; two great grandchildren; sisters: Diane Johnson, Oregon, Connie (Gale) Hamel, Towner, ND; Corinne Thompson, Minot, ND; sister-in-law: Mary Mongeon, Rolette, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Victoria, brother Daniel Mongeon and brothers-in-law: Stan Thompson and Will Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota. Military Rites will be provided by the Park River American Legion Post 147 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
