David L. Dahlin

David Louis Dahlin, age 67 of Grafton, formerly of Thief River Falls, died peacefully at his home on June 5, 2020.

David was born to Winton and Theresa Dahlin on May 9, 1953 in Thief River Falls, MN. While growing up in TRF, he would make many memories with his two brothers Daniel and Richard. Dave would go on to graduate from Lincoln High School in 1971 and enlist a few years later into the US Navy in 1974 proudly as a Medical Corpsman where he received a National Defense Service Medal. After completing his tour, Dave moved to the Minneapolis area where he would find the love of his life Susie. He would become “Dad” for the first time as Sue brought her son Eric (Miller) into his life from a previous relationship, but Dave welcomed him with open arms.They would unite their love in marriage on April 30, 1984 and soon welcome their “second”child, Carrie (Hughes) together on October 8 of that same year. A year later James (Dahlin)would bless them once again October 21, 1985. They would soon settle and make their home back in Thief River where Dave would find his most fulfilling career as a DNR trails and waterway ranger. This included setting controlled fires, as well as, fighting them. He was soproud of this! After retiring, he would finally have time to enjoy the things he loved the most, which would include his beloved Harley’s. Dave owned several Harleys throughout his life and were one ofhis many passions. Others would include going to visit friends at the cabin in Remer, fishing,target shooting, reading westerns, and of course, always having that Louisville slugger close by!

David is survived by his father: Winton Dahlin of Thief River Falls, MN; daughter: Carrie (Matt) Hughes, Grafton, ND; sons: James (Amber) Dahlin, Thief River Falls, MN, and Eric (Annie) Miller, Monticello, MN; brothers: Daniel Dahlin, Warren, MN and Richard (Charmaine) Dahlin, Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren: Logan Miller, Monticello, MN; Raya Dahlin, Thief River Falls, MN; Preston Hughes, Grafton, ND; Ethan Hughes, Grafton, ND; aunt: Shari (Jeff) Knutson, Thief River Falls, MN and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Susan Dahlin; mother: Theresa Dahlin; aunts and uncles, Mildred (Red) Fossell and Larry (Shirley) Larson.

Friends and family may attend visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 5-7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Tollefson Funeral Home in Grafton, ND. A private burial will be held Friday morning at the Veterans Cemetery in Harwood, ND. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 41 and the United States Naval Honor Guard.  Social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are recommended.
