Darrell Bjornson, age 65 of St. Thomas, ND passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his home in St. Thomas. Darrell C. Bjornson was born November 20, 1946 in McVille, ND the son of the late Albin and Ione (Hanson) Bjornson. He attended schools in Valley City, ND and Roseau, MN and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Darrell served in the United States Navy from January of 1966 to January of 1969 as a crewman on an A-3 Sky Warrior in Vietnam. Following his discharge he returned to Park River. He was united in marriage to LuJune Papenfuss on January 10, 1970. He learned to fly in Grafton, ND and started working as a crop sprayer pilot for Bernie Troftgruben. He owned and operated St. Thomas Flying Service for several years. He later worked for John Blair and was currently working for Johnson Flying Service in Grafton. In the winter months Darrell worked as an over the road trucker. He owned and operated Bjornson Trucking in St. Thomas. Darrell served on the St. Thomas School Board, was a member of the St. Thomas Boosters and the Ottum-Ball American Legion Post. He is survived by his wife LuJune Bjornson, St. Thomas, ND; sons: Michael (Wendy) Bjornson, St. Thomas, ND; Mathew Bjornson, St. Thomas, ND; Timothy (Taryn) Bjornson, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren: Blake, Natalie and Jaxon Bjornson and a little one on the way. He is also survived by two sisters: Sandra Gordon, St. Thomas, ND; Lois (Richard) Nesvig, Buxton, ND; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Jim Gordon and niece Bobbi Gordon. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Thomas City Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Ottum-Ball American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
