Daniel T. Thompson, age 75 of Alliance, NE passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND.
Daniel Thomas Thompson was born December 12, 1949 to the late Thomas and Junice (Holt) Thompson in Grafton, ND. He was raised on the family farm with his five brothers. He attended Park River Schools and graduated from the Walsh County Ag School. After graduation, he began farming with his father and brother Doug. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Lee on December 16, 1967 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Hoople. They made their home in rural Grafton, where they continued to farm and raise their children. In 1985, Daniel and his brothers began farming together as the TF Thompson & Sons, Inc. Daniel loved his family and farming. In 1995, he and Barbara moved to Alliance, NE, where he began farming with his son Joe. He was a part of daily operations on the farm until recently when medical issues required him to take a step back. His perseverance and work ethic made him the incredible brother, father, grandfather, and friend that he will be remembered as.
Daniel loved a teaching moment, whether about farming or life. He coached Grafton youth hockey and trapshooting at the Walsh County Gun Club. He enjoyed refereeing hockey, playing in the “Old Timers” hockey league, fishing, and hunting. He cherished his time with his brothers, his children, and especially his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the Walsh County Gun Club. He served on several boards through his years of farming, such as the Nash Grain Board and the NE Potato Certification Board. He was the National Seed Grower of the Year in 2007.
Daniel is survived by his children: Patricia Thompson, Osceola, WI, Brenda (Alan) Bergum, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Joseph (Rebecca) Thompson, Alliance, NE; grandchildren: Danielle and Nicole Annunziata; Jessica, John, and Ryan Bergum; and Ian, Logan, and Tate Thompson; brothers: Doug (Kay), Jim (Alyce), Rick (Pam), Ron (Jennifer), and Tom (Angela); his “best pal” Gracie; and special friend Eileen Codina. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barbara.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Hoople, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dementia Society of America or the Alliance NE FFA Chapter.
Nebraska funeral services will be Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Alliance, NE with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating. . Visitation with the family present will be Friday, October 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hemingford Cemetery, rural Hemingford, NE.
