Dalyn James Vollrath, 37, of St. Thomas, North Dakota passed away unexpectedly in his home on November 24, 2018. He was born July 4, 1981 in Cavalier, North Dakota, son of Denise Vollrath and the late Doyle Vollrath. He attended school in St. Thomas where he was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams, played in the band and sang in the choir. After graduating in 1999, he attended the University of Minnesota – Crookston studying agronomy before returning home to work on the family farm. He worked winters at American Crystal Sugar Company in Drayton and Mike’s Repair in Grafton. He served on the St. Thomas School Board, Farmer’s Union Board, Lodema Township Board, and was a former Fire Chief at the St. Thomas Rural Fire Department.
Dalyn was a gentle, loving, kind, quick-witted man with a heart of gold who loved his family very much; particularly his two sons and nephew. He enjoyed the outdoors, target shooting, farming and spending time with family and friends.
Dalyn is survived by his sons Devon and Logan Vollrath of Grafton, mother Denise (Kliniske) Vollrath, sister Amber (Jason) Meyer, nephew Cameron Meyer all of St. Thomas, special friend Tiffany Ezeb, inspirational mentors Richard Buchholtz of St.Thomas and Michael Kliniske of Grafton. Aunts and uncles Elaine (Roland) Collette, Pat Durand, Germaine (Larry) Collins, Eugene Kliniske, Diane (Martin) Johnson, Barbara (Gilbert) Stromvall, Mary Dietrich, Michael Kliniske, Jacqueline (Maurice) Brusseau, Arthur (Colleen) Kliniske, David (Sally) Kliniske, Bradley (Mary) Kliniske, Kristi (Robert) Hurst, numerous cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Vollrath, grandparents James and Barbara Vollrath and Joseph and Lillian Kliniske and several aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at the St. Thomas School Gymnasium. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:00 P.M. at the school. Inurnment will be at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Thomas, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Thomas Fire Department.
