Cyril J. "Cy" Dusek, age 79 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Banner Gardens Hospice House of Mesa, AZ. Cyril James Dusek was born March 10, 1930 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Jerome and Mamie (Votava) Dusek. He grew up and attended school in Veseleyville, ND. Following his education he worked on the family farm. Cyril served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, serving in Korea. Following his discharge he returned to Grafton where he worked in construction and a part-time mail carrier at the Post Office. He was united in marriage to Johanna Slominski on October 26, 1954 in Warsaw. The couple made their home in Grafton. He became Postmaster in 1973 and retired in 1985.
Cy was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church where he served as trustee. He was a life member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41, the V.F. W. Post #9367, the 40 & 8 Voiture #239, the Knights of Columbus #3918, the NRA, the North American Hunting Club, Duck's Unlimited and the National Association of Retired Employees. He enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing. He spent many summers at their lake home and the last 15 winters in Mesa, AZ. Cy especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Johanna, Grafton, ND; children: Cindy (David) Bye, Nobelsville, IN; Sheila (Kent) Trontvet, Grafton, ND; Gerette (Ralph) Holweger, Grand Forks, ND; Kevin (Pam) Dusek, Grafton, ND; eight grandchildren: Derrick (Vicki) Bye, Amanda (Gian) Ventura, William Bye, Paul Bye, Brandon and Danielle Trontvet; Amy and Alex Holweger; siblings: Lawrence (Doloria) Dusek, Grand Forks, ND; Viola (Ron) Wysocki, Warsaw, ND and Luke (Darlene) Dusek, Pekin, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rita.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M at the St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday 4-6:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, ND. Friends may call at the church for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41.
