Cheryl Jane Licandro

July 15, 1950 — April 2, 2018

Cheryl (Fagerholt) Licandro, 67, of Tempe, AZ formerly of Hoople, ND passed away April 2, 2018 at home with her husband Rick and son Mark by her side.

Cheryl Jane Fagerholt was born July 15, 1950 in Grafton, ND to Elmo and Ann (Rustan) Fagerholt. She graduated from Hoople High School in 1968 as class valedictorian. In the fall of that year, Cheryl moved to Arizona and went on to graduate with honors from the University of Arizona (Tucson) in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy. After her graduation, she met and married her soulmate, Rick Licandro, on November 24, 1978. They had two children, Caryn Ann in 1984 and Mark Richard in 1989.

Although Cheryl started her pharmacy career in retail sales, the vast majority of her working years were spent as a consultant for nursing and assisted living facilities. After Rick’s retirement in the early 2000’s, he went on to work with Cheryl, where they truly enjoyed their time spent together.

Having started their married life in Glendale, AZ, Rick and Cheryl built a new home in Tempe and moved there in 1988. They were always gracious hosts to family and friends alike, especially in the winter months. Many lively conversations took place around their dining room table or out on the patio around the pool. Cheryl was a lover of all things animals. She and Rick rescued many, felines who otherwise would not have had a home. She was also a self-proclaimed Scrabble champion, most notably in the Fagerholt family. They spent many family gatherings huddled around a table taking great pride in outscoring each other. Simultaneous to their retirement, Cheryl and Rick purchased and managed a series of rental properties. Cheryl continued to do this until the time of her death.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Rick of Tempe, daughter Caryn (Owen) Shaw of Seward, NE, son Mark of Chandler, AZ, and her pride and joy, grandsons Tyson and Clay Shaw. Also, surviving are paternal aunts, Eunice (Harold) Vold and Eulalie Smestad and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and infant brother, John.

Funeral services for Cheryl will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Hoople, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place in the Hoople City Cemetery.
