Charles A. Ill

Charles Arthur Ill, age 83 passed away peacefully on Friday, December 7 ^th at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND.

Charles was born on October 11 ^th , 1935 to Carl and Sophia (Puppe) Ill. Charles was baptized and confirmed at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church. He attended the Born Country School for 8 years before moving to Saint Thomas Public School, where he graduated in 1953. In October of 1959 Charlie was blessed with the birth of a Son, Cory. In 1987 Charles met Ann, who would become his wife years later. Through his marriage to Ann, Charles was blessed with a son, Blair and daughter, Rebecca.

Being born into a family farm, Charles’ love for farming was in his blood. He was a dedicated care taker of the land. He would see this through his whole life, never truly “retiring” from farming. You could find him at the elevator every morning debating who planted the straightest rows and keeping up with the table of knowledge. Charles loved spending time with his family and friends to include hunting and ranching in western, ND, hosting a huge Thanksgiving meal every year, fishing trips, sporting events and much, much more.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, MaryAnn Gangelhoff and Doris (Henry) Rustan. Charles is survived by his wife, Ann of Saint Thomas, ND, sons, Cory Ill, Maple Grove, MN; Blair Breen of Lake Worth, FL and daughter, Rebecca(Eric) Rensvold of Gardner, ND; sister, Marian Reinert of Millington, MI, brother, Carlton (Judy) Ill of Cavalier and sister Darlene (Dewey) Nielsen of Oxford, IA. Grandsons: Dillon Reed and Jaxon and Easton Rensvold.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of rural St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund or the St. Thomas Fire Department.
