Catherine F. Hjelmstad

Catherine Faye Hjelmstad, age 72, of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at First Care Health Center of Park River. Catherine Faye Grant was born May 9, 1942, the daughter of Ulysses S. and Amelia (Hosna) Grant, Adams, ND. Cathy grew up and graduated from school in Adams. She married John B. "Jack" Sellheim in 1959 in Adams. To this union, three daughters were born: Christy Faye, Cheri Faith and Cindy Fyllis. Jack died in 1963. Cathy married Milton P. Hjelmstad in 1964 and they had one daughter, Caryn Fran. Milt died in October of 2011. The family lived in Crystal, MN where Cathy worked for Fanny Farmer Candy, in Grand Forks, ND where she worked for K-Mart and Stephen, MN where she worked for Far North Ammonia & Chemical and Lundeen Motors. She was a member of the Stephen Volunteer Ambulance. Milt and Cathy moved to Park River, ND in 1982 where she worked for Wayne's Variety Store, State Farm Insurance, Alexander House and Bob's Repair. She was known as a hard worker wherever she lived. She had exceptional organizational and bookkeeping skills. She had an eye for decorating and keeping things neat and orderly. Cathy was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Stephen and Park River. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She also loved to watch old movies and keeping up on news and current events in the world after retiring. She is survived by her daughters: Christy (Lynn) Sjoblom, Karlstad, MN; Cheri (Michael) Douglas, Stephen, MN; Cindy (David) Kuznia, Stephen, MN; Caryn Hjelmstad (Danny McWhorter), Mt. Juliet, TN; 10 grandchildren: Noah (Kelli) Sjoblom, West Fargo, ND; Nathan Sjoblom, Seattle, WA; Gabriel Douglas, Minneapolis, MN; Daniel (Kelsi) Douglas, Stephen, MN; Steven Douglas, New York City, NY; Katie (Barrett) Sczepanski, Stephen, MN; Brett (Amber) Kuznia, Stephen, MN; Kayela (Jacobi) Moore, St. Augustine, FL; Tyson (Azia) Chrest, Williston, ND; Christopher McWhorter, Tucson, AZ; 15 great grandchildren: Brayden Polka, Madelyn & Brynn Sjoblom, Lillian, Hazel & Olive Douglas, Jacob & Avery Sczepanski, Payton & Bradley Kuznia, Hayden Krawiec, Mckinzy & Mckenna Moore, Shyan & Tucker Chrest. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers: William and Kenneth and sister, Annejane Lundquist. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at West Adams Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams, ND.
