Carol J. Troftgruben

Carol J. Troftgruben, age 88 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Adams, ND passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Valley Senior Living of Grand Forks.

Carol J. Hanson was born January 12, 1937 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Hans and Alice (Watne) Hanson. She grew up and attended school in Fairdale, ND. She also attended Valley City State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in a rural school near Langdon, ND for two years. Carol was united in marriage to Myrlin Troftgruben on June 27, 1959 in Adams, ND. The couple made their home in Adams where they owned and operated Myrlin’s repair until retiring in 1995. Carol served as one of the church organists for Mountain Lutheran Church of Adams, Hoff Lutheran Church, rural Lankin, and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale.

She was a member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church and WELCA, a life member of the Adams American Legion Auxiliary and Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing the organ, listening to music and sewing and knitting.

Carol is survived by her children: Eileen (Doug) James, Barbara (Wayne) Brandvold, Rhonda (Mark) Greicar and Rodney (Cariann) Troftgruben, 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Freije; her in-laws: Duane (Lorraine) Troftgruben, Orlan Troftgruben, Mavis (Jim) Boura, Bonnie Espelien, Mayvis Troftgruben along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 15, 2024; her parents, brothers: Chuck, Bill and Jerry Hanson; grandson Brian Barclay, brother-in-law, LeRoy Troftgruben, sister-in-law, Alice Troftgruben and nephew Shawn Troftgruben.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams, ND. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the West Adams Cemetery. The service will be live streamed at www.tollefsonfuneralhome.com.
