Brian Patrick Stoltman

June 14, 1980 — July 15, 2017

Brian Stoltman, age 37, was born on June 14, 1980 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Brian’s Parents were Edward Stoltman and Mary (Wisniewski) Stoltman. He attended school in Minto, North Dakota where he was an Honor Student and heavily involved in various sports as well as the High School Band.

He attended NDSU for a single semester before moving to Southern California, where he began working for the JS Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa located in Palm Desert, California.

He then moved to Santa Barbara, California and attended the Santa Barbara City College taking general studies that included World History, World Religions, and alternative forms of Spirituality. While there, he began to work for the TRADER JOES Grocery Company.

After getting his AA Degree from the Santa Barbara City College, he applied and was accepted to the University of California at Berkeley where he studied Psychology.

He graduated with honors from Berkeley after earning a BA in Psychology.

He spent several years continuing to work for the TRADER JOES Grocery, while also working for APPLE Inc. at their flagship store in Downtown San Francisco as in “instructor”, teaching others how to use all forms of Apple Technology.

Continuing his education, he attended The San Francisco City College taking classes at night and on the weekends to learn special computer programming skills in order to prepare for work in the San Francisco based Computer Programming Industry.

His first big job came when he was hired as a Technical Support Consultant for a San Francisco based programming company called SlideRocket .

SlideRocket was bought out and changed its name to ClearSlide . He continued to work at ClearSlide as one of their lead Technical Support people until he was offered a better opportunity and joined a brand new San Francisco base Startup Company call Mile IQ, which was a new company being formed by a friend that he had met while working at SlideRocket .

Brian worked as the sole Technical Support person at Mile IQ until the company was able to grow big enough that a staff could be hired to work with him. During the time he worked at Mile IQ, Brian lived at the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Brian continued to work at MileIQ until Microsoft acquired it in November 2015.

He then moved to Honolulu Hawaii, and took a 6-month intensive computer-programming course in the hopes of gaining more work in the Silicon Valley.

Brian unfortunately developed a severe form of schizophrenia shortly after returning from Hawaii in the fall of 2016.

He spent several long months battling with what he claimed were difficult and debilitating mental impressions and outlandish auditory hallucinations.

He moved to Mesa, Arizona for several months in the fall of 2016 while he sought out medical help, and the closeness of his family.

He moved for the last time to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the spring of 2017, having felt that his condition was getting better.

He worked for the TRADER JOES Grocery Company at one of their Minneapolis stores until a flare up of his illness caused him to take his own life early Friday morning on July 14, 2017.

Brian is survived by his family…, his father Ed, his brothers, Larry and wife Deb, Brad, Tom, Ken, and his sister Lynn, as well as Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and friends from all over the country.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Minto, ND at 9 am on Saturday, July 29, 2017 for all who wish to attend. (Visitation at 9, with Services at 10)

There will also be a gathering at the family home in Minto directly after the Service for close friends and family members, but anyone who wants to be there is welcome.

It is our wish to celebrate Brian’s life for the pursuit of the passions that he acquired on his journey in life. The relentless search of the best cup of coffee near him. He loved hanging out with friends and family enjoying the local craft beers, tasting vintage wines. Walking and hiking were his forms of relaxing and keeping himself grounded with nature.

For those wishing to make donations on behalf of Brian, his niece, Kera Morelock is setting up a charity walk committed to raising funds to help NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) provide more services for people living with mental health challenges. If we can help prevent just one person from falling to this same fate as Brian, it will be money well spent. Kera efforts can be seen at
