Brian Allan Misialek

June 25, 1959 — December 21, 2017

Brian Allan Misialek, age 58, passed away on Thursday morning, December 21, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family.  Brian was diagnosed in October 2017 with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare brain disease that affects only one in one million people.  Brian was truly a one in a million man.
Brian Allan Misialek was born the son of Leo and Genevieve (Wilmer) Misialek on June 25, 1959, in Grafton, North Dakota.  He was raised in the Minto community and graduated from Minto High School in 1977.  He attended Lake Region State College for two years for carpentry.
Brian’s passion for carpentry started at age 14.  He worked for various construction companies for several years in Beulah, ND, and Minto, ND, before he decided to branch out and start his own construction company.  He opened Misialek Construction in 1983, at the age of 24, and owned and operated this business until September 2017, when his declining health forced him to retire.  Brian was a perfectionist when it came to his work, and many people expressed that he was the best carpenter in the Minto area.
Brian married Debra Hanson on August 18, 1990, in Grafton, ND, at Zion English Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Minto, in the house that Brian built, added on to, and remodeled several times over the years.  Their daughter, Alana, was born in 1993, and their son, Logan, was born in 1996. Brian was a very quiet man, preferring home life to crowds and big events.  He enjoyed camping with his wife and children, a whiskey coke, deer hunting, long naps, and sitting by a campfire with his wife.
Brian is survived by his wife, Debbie, and their two children, Alana Christine, (Travis Hermanson) of Edmore, ND, and Logan Allan, of Minto.  He is also survived by his mother, Genevieve Misialek of Minto, his brother, Lynn (Cheryl) and children Kyle, Kelsey, Kody, and Kourtney of Grand Forks, sisters Gwynn (Earl) Harlow and son Chad of Centralia, IL, Jennifer Nalewaja and children Noah, Sidney, Landon and Caden of Charlotte, NC, Sue (Steve) Ulven and their sons Lucas and Derek, Grand Forks, ND, and DeAnn (Matthew) Hallaway and their  children Joshua, Sophie, Cortland, and Liam of Fargo, ND.  He is also survived by many many aunts, uncles, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo, in 2014, and his grandparents, Walter and Christine Misialek and Ellen and Alrick Wilmer, and his wife’s parents, Darlene Hanson and Vernon Hanson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at the Zion English Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 -7:00 P.M. with a prayer service 7:00 P.M. at the church.  Friends may also visit at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Minto, ND.  Memorials may be directed to Altru Hospice, the Minto Community Center, or the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Foundation.
