Bernice McMartin of St. Thomas, ND passed away on Friday March 2, 2018 at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, AZ.
Bernice Grovum was born on January 8, 1932 in Park River, ND, the daughter of the late Theodore “Ted” and Elida (Stransberg) Grovum. She graduated high school in Grafton, ND. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper and in the telephone office in Grafton. Bernice was united in marriage to Jack H. McMartin on February 28, 1959 in Grafton, ND. The couple resided and farmed in St. Thomas, ND area. They later spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. Her husband Jack passed away on January 30, 2010.
Bernice was a devoted farm wife and mother. She had a strong faith and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Thomas, ND. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, card playing and spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by her children; Mary Beth (Jim) Martin, Eagan, MN; Diane (James) Kotten, Greenfield, MN; Randy (Renae) McMartin, St. Thomas, ND. Seven grandchildren; Alaina Martin, Cole Martin, Cory (Sara) Robertson, Chad Robertson, Alyson(Taylor) Hall, Trevor McMartin, and Courtney McMartin, her sister Yvonne (Morgan) Olson, Puyallup, WA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Orville and Leland Grovum and her parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of St. Thomas. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Thomas City Cemetery, in the spring.
