Benedict J. "Ben" Dusek, age 85 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his home in Grafton. Benedict J. Dusek was born September 16, 1926 near Grafton, ND the son of the late Frank and Mary (Blasek) Dusek. He attended rural school near Veseleyville, ND. Following his education he worked on the family farm and helped area farmers. Ben served in the United States Army from December 11, 1944 - November 19, 1946. Upon his discharge he returned home and started working for the Peavey Company. In 1951 he started with the Grafton Farmers Co-op Grain Company. Ben was united in marriage to Louise Riskey on September 18, 1951 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Warsaw. The couple made their home in Grafton. After retiring from Grafton Farmers Grain, Ben worked part-time for the Henriksen-Barnes Funeral Home in Grafton until 2008. Louise passed away on September 10, 2006. Ben was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he served on the Church Council, sang in the choir and served on the cemetery board. He served on the Grafton City Council for several years. He was a member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41, Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Workman. Ben loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed golfing, senior bowling, hunting, fishing and singing with the Czech Singers. Ben is survived by his children: Barbara (Jake) Coykendall, Lone Tree, CO; son-in-law Thomas Huey, Rochester, MN; Janet (Bob) Rongitsch, Mounds View, MN; Grace (Scott) Matheson, Moorhead, MN; Timothy (Shelly) Dusek, Atlanta, GA; James (Kris) Dusek, Grafton, ND; John (Mary) Dusek, Grafton, ND; 17 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings: Mary (Orlyn) Berg, Helen Sieben, Joseph (Clarice) Dusek all of Grafton and Raymond (Terry) Dusek of Crookston, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Louise, daughter Susan Huey on Aug. 30, 2011, grandson Stephen and brother Frank. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Monday from 4-6 with a prayer service at 6:00 PM and Tuesday for one hour prior to the service all at the church. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Valley Ambulance Service and the Altru Hospice, Grafton Office, for all their tremendous support during this difficult time.
