Barbara J Nelson

Barbara J. Nelson, age 73 of rural Park River, ND passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at her home. Barbara Joan Dencker was born January 5, 1938 on her grandparents farm near Edinburg, the daughter of the late Ernest and Irene (Aker) Dencker. She attended Union School District 122, graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1956 and attended St. Luke's School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to Carl E. "Tobin" Nelson on March 28, 1958 in Veblen, SD. The couple lived in Cayuga, ND until 1960 when they moved to the rural Park River area. She worked as a nurse's aide at the St. Ansgar's Hospital, the Park River Good Samaritan Center and also drove potato truck during harvest. Carl passed away August 3, 2001. She retired from the Good Samaritan Center in 2008. Barbara enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting, bike riding, fishing, camping, attending circle and other church and Bible Camp activities, caring for her children and grandchildren. Barbara was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary, Northeast North Dakota Pioneer Machinery Association and was active in the quilt auction for the Bible Camp. Barbara is survived by her children: Cindy Cae Nelson Moe, Dilworth, MN; Jay Carl (Lisa) Nelson, Park River, ND; Ronald Scott Nelson, Park River, ND; Amy Jo (Jerry) Noeske, Valley City, ND; grandchildren: Tanner and Tobey Moe, Minneapolis, MN; Aloria and Charles Nelson, Park River, ND; Taylor and Bailey Nelson, Minto, ND; Jenessa, Lindsey and Samuel Noeske, Valley City, ND; sister: Judith Dencker McGoven, Tucson, AZ. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Ronald Dencker and sister Doris Dencker Einarson. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River ND. Friends may call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the German Cemetery, rural Park River, ND.
