Avonne Dewar

September 18, 1940 — February 26, 2025

Avonne Starkson Driscoll Dewar was born on September 18, 1940 to Stella and Seymour Starkson at Fordville, ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended the country school and the Fordville Public School. She graduated from nursing school in Portland, OR and began her nursing career as an LPN. She married Tom Driscoll on February 23, 1968.  She worked in several hospitals in her lifetime but also took  time off to raise their two sons. When the boys were very young Tom passed away and she remained home to raise them by herself. She was a devoted wife and dedicated her nursing skills to caring for Tom at home during the final year of his life.

She spent the past twenty years of her life with her son and daughter-in-law in Minneapolis and their little boy. They watched over her and invited her to live with them where she could enjoy her young grandson as he was growing up.

She enjoyed Norwegian baking and was very good at it.  She always greeted everyone with a smile and was a devoted Christian throughout her life which enabled her to handle the many struggles she encountered.

In February she moved from Minneapolis into the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton to be near her son and grandson who relocated there.

She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025 at the Lutheran Sunset Home at Grafton, ND.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney (Jody) and Mitchell (Jodi);grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, Jaxson, and Sam; one great granddaughter, Theresa; sister, Marlene (Dale) Johnson; and nieces and nephew, Julie, Tiffany, and John.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Eugene(Rosemary).
