Arthur L. Oihus

Arthur Lincoln Oihus, loving husband and father, successful agri-businessman, avid golfer, and community patron, succumbed on September 10, 2011 at the age of eighty-six in Grand Forks, North Dakota following an ordeal with cancer which he faced with uncommon dignity and fortitude. Art was born on February 7, 1925, the fourth child of Emma Severson Oihus and Alfred Henry Oihus. He attended Chase Elementary School and Central High School, graduating in 1943. Answering the call to arms during World War II, Art entered the military service as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. On November 24, 1950, Art married Phyllis Patricia Maresch, the beautiful dark haired Irish lass who lived across the street. Together they raised eight children in their home on picturesque Eastwood Drive. In 1958, Art entered into a business partnership with his close friend Henry "Hank" Monson and formed the agricultural machinery dealership known as "A and H Implement." Those who must now survive without him include a large and loving family: a sister and a brother, eight children, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, spouses, cousins, and special family friends. His children and their spouses include Kevin Oihus and Maureen Greenwood, Colleen and Edward Warner, Erin and John Morgan, Sean Oihus, Gavin Oihus and Eric Cramer, Bronwyn Oihus and Rafael Silva, Connor and Lark Oihus, and Colin Oihus. A funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton, North Dakota on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 11 o'clock in the morning with Father Timothy Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be at the Tollefson Funeral Home on Friday evening, September 16, 2011 between the hours of 5pm and 7pm. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
