Arthur E. Flaten

Arthur E. "Art" Flaten, age 89 of Park River, ND passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Art was born December 24, 1924 to Amund and Johanna (Wambem) Flaten on the family farm near Park River. He graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Art was united in marriage to Violet Brown on June 18, 1949. The couple lived and farmed near Park River. Farming was Art's passion and he especially loved raising livestock. He enjoyed the challenge of building his hog barns and creating things in his shop. After Violet's death, Art married Wanda Lien Rustebakke on Oct. 2, 1976. Art took his faith in God seriously. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. He was also involved in the Walsh County Fair and Pork Producers Association. Art is survived by his children: Cynthia (David) Loiland, Thompson, ND; Glenn (Terri) Flaten, Cedar Rapids, IA; Lynn Flaten, Williston, ND; Carla (Tom) Hurtt, Hoople, ND; step-children: Dale (Carol) Rustebakke, Cedaredge, CO; Steve (Sherri) Rustebakke, Woodsboro, MD; Sue Rustebakke Roll, Summit Lake, WI; 13 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; sisters: Martha Nygard, Bismarck, ND; Dorothy Drevecky, Arlington, TX and special friend, Dolly Halverson of Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, sisters: Betty Christopherson and Doris Stark and step-son, Ralph (Rick) Rustebakke. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND.
