Arlene M. Mondry, age 79 of Ardoch, ND passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Arlene M. Korynta was born May 12, 1938 in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of the late Leo and Agnes (Anderson) Korynta. She attended elementary school in Ardoch, ND and graduated from Minto High School in 1956. Following her education she worked at Hugo’s in Grand Forks, ND. Arlene was united in marriage to Fred Mondry on November 5, 1958 at St. John’s Catholic Church of Ardoch. The couple made their home on the farm near Ardoch until November of 2016 when Arlene moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home. The couple spent 23 winters in Lake Havasu, AZ.
Arlene was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She taught religious education for over 20 years. She was very artistic and enjoyed creating the banners and altar cloths for the church. She was a member of the Minto American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and canning and freezing the produce of her garden. She loved to style hair and would do it for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her potato salad, mac salad, caramel rolls, her homemade hand whipped Angel Food and German chocolate cakes. Her family especially enjoyed the Sunday evening farm raised fried chicken dinners. She was an avid pinochle player and was known as an aggressive bidder.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Fred, Ardoch, ND; her children: Sam (Mary) Mondry, Forest River, ND; Bonnie Carlson, West Fargo, ND; Tim (Shari) Mondry, Forest River, ND; 8 grandchildren: Andrew, Stephen, Emily, Lucas, Alycia, Amanda, Stephanie and Lance; four great grandchildren: Hailie, David, Isaiah and Abel; her siblings: Ardell (Ina Jane) Korynta, Grand Forks, ND; Ronnie (Arlys) Korynta, Oslo, MN; LeAnn (Buzz) Baldwin, Grafton, ND; her sister-in-law, Janice Korynta, Warren, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother LeRoy and nephews: Todd and Sean.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Minto, ND in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Lutheran Sunset Home or the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund.
