Anton R. “Tony” Alkofer, age 85 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Park River, ND passed away at his home in Grand Forks on Sunday, December 9, 2018.
Anton Richard Alkofer was born June 4, 1933 in Oakes, ND the son of the late Anton and Louise (Quandt) Alkofer. He attended grade school in Ludden, ND and graduated from Oakes High School in 1951. He attended Ellendale Normal College for 2 years. He joined the Navy in 1953 and planned to be a pilot, but an eye condition changed his plans. He served two years in Naval Air and was honorably discharged in 1955. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and received a degree in Geology in 1958. He also pursued a teaching degree from UND that he received in 1960. He accepted a Math/Science teaching position in Park River, ND. He met and married Kay Sackenreuter on August 27, 1961 in Lawton, ND. He taught at Park River his whole 30 year career. In those years he was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation. He received at Master of Science Teaching Degree. After retiring in 1990, he worked full time as a Federal Crop Adjuster until 2008.
Tony was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and the Paul Farup American Legion Post #147 in Park River, ND.
He is survived by his wife, Kay of Grand Forks, ND; two children: Greg Alkofer and Kris Sousek; his grandchildren: Amber Alkofer and Zachary Sousek, his sister Rose Alkofer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lawrence and Raymond; his sister-in-law, Irmgard and nephew Tom Alkofer.
Memorial services will be Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND in the spring.
