Anna Irene Peterson

Anna Irene Peterson, age 88 of Park River, ND died Monday, October 20, 2008 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Anna Irene Knutson was born November 27, 1919 to Clinton and Minnie (Jobe) Knutson in Norton Township, Walsh County, ND. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1938.

Irene married John C. Peterson on May 26, 1942 in Crookston, MN and moved to Santa Monica, CA to work as Rosie the Riveter for Douglas Aircraft. Irene and John returned to Park River in 1945. Irene worked part-time for Duncan Meagher at the John Deere Implement doing book work. When Dunc sold the Implement to John Wild and then to the Oppegard family, Irene continued full-time until her retirement in 1989. During that time, Irene was active in Rebekah Lodge, Federated Ladies Aid, Homemakers, and the Volunteer Ambulance and was a 64 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene and Mary Jane Capp often dressed in costumes and treated residents of Sunrise Estates and the Good Samaritan Center to Life Savers, Mardi gras beads and other special treats.

She is survived by her sons: Wayne (Kathy) of Littleton, CO and Robert (Arlene) of Fargo, ND; daughters: Karen (Gary) Micheli of Pueblo, CO and Kathryn (Michael) Glass of Centennial, CO. Seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and siblings: Harriett Armann of California, Larry Knutson of Florida and Don (Marie) Knutson of Louisianna . She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.

Memorial services will be Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10: 00 at the Park River Federated Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
