Anita L. Laberge

Anita L. LaBerge, age 84 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Dougherty Hospice House of Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by her family.

Anita L. Evenson was born June 26, 1931 in Edgeley, ND the daughter of the late John and Iva (Walle) Evenson. She graduated high school in Edgeley, ND and graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College with a degree in education. While in college she was the homecoming queen. Following her education she moved to Grafton, ND where she taught at Grafton High School and met her husband, Richard LaBerge. The couple was married June 14, 1958 at Edgeley, ND. They made their home in Grafton. After the children were older, Anita started working as a seamstress at Reyleck’s Department store.

Anita was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She served as president of the Altar Society for several years. Anita enjoyed quilting and made quilts for her all her grandchildren. She played Bingo and Bridge. She was an avid NBA fan and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, Grafton, ND; children: Robert (Cindy) LaBerge, Sioux Falls, SD; Kathryn (Donald) Warren, Oaks, ND; Jennifer LaBerge-Sorum (James), Sioux Falls, SD, her grandchildren: Michael (Gloria), Daniel (Julie), Amanda LaBerge, Kristen, Michelle and Nicole Warren and Jillyssa, Emelia and Jorgen Sorum, her great grandchildren: Bella Sorum, William, Peter, Madeline and Alexander LaBerge, and her sister, Sharon (Nick) Westman, Plymouth, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, DeAnn in 1960 and brother Gene Evenson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
