Amalia Martinez

Amalia Martinez, "Grandma Amy", age 83 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center of Fargo, ND. Amalia Rodriquez was born October 8, 1929 in Hoople, ND the daughter of the late Nicholas and Apolinar (Quiroga) Rodriguez. She attended school in Auburn, ND. Amalia was united in marriage to Felipe Martinez in October of 1949 in Grafton. The couple made their home in Auburn and worked for Lykken Farms. In 1974 they moved to Grafton and they owned and operated a restaurant here. She later worked at Borden's and the Lutheran Sunset Home. She was a generous supporter of the St. Jude's Children Hospital. Amalia is survived by her children: Mary (Catarino Jr.) Surita, Grafton, ND; Felipe (San Juana) Martinez, Jr. St. Thomas, ND; Julio (Rosa) Martinez, Fort Worth, TX; Teresa Gravelin, Grafton, ND; Antonio Martinez, Grafton, ND; Rosalinda (Javier) Aguado, Grafton, ND; Carlos (Mary Jane) Martinez, East Grand Forks, MN; Richard Martinez, Grand Forks, ND; Michael Martinez, Fargo, ND; Helen (Juan) Garcia, East Grand Forks, MN; Alicia (Daniel) Olivarez, Grafton, ND; San Juana Martinez, Grand Forks, ND; Benito "Benny" (Kristi) Martinez, Golden Valley, MN; 65 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren with 2 more to arrive in 2013 and 2 in 2014; her siblings: Florentino Rodriguez, Fargo, ND; Carmen Caberra, Fort Worth, TX and Concepcion Galindo, Laredo, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Felipe on Nov. 25, 2010, several brothers and sisters and three grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will Friday, July 12, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. John's Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
