Alvin Evenson

Alvin K. Evenson, age 60 of Minto, ND passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Alvin K. Evenson was born May 13, 1948 in Grand Forks, ND the son of the late Helmer and Bertha (Conway) Evenson. He attended school at the Allendale #60 School near Thompson, ND and graduated from Central High School in 1966. He enlisted in the Unites States Army and served from 1968 - 1971. Following his discharge he enrolled at the Wahpeton State School of Science and earned his welding certificate. Alvin was united in marriage to Jane Kilichowski on July 20, 1974 in Minto, ND. The couple moved to Big Stone City, SD where Alvin worked as a welder for Bechtel Corp. on the Big Stone Power Plant. In 1975 the couple moved back to Minto where he worked for Harriston Industries. In the fall of 1975 he started working for American Crystal Sugar in Drayton, ND and worked there until 1993. He was currently working for Harriston Industries in Minto, ND. He also helped his brother-in-laws on the Kilichowski Farms for the last 37 yrs.

Alvin was a life member of the Evanger Lutheran Church, a member of the Minto Volunteer Fire Department where he held the offices of Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and Training Officer and was currently the treasurer. He enjoyed playing Black Jack, Pinochle, watching the History channel and hunting and fishing with his children Vanessa and Brady.

Alvin is survived by his wife Jane of Minto, ND; children: Vanessa Evenson, Grand Forks, ND; Brady Evenson, Minto, ND; sister Helen Deitz of Mahnomen, MN; brothers: Garry (Irene) Evenson, Minto, ND; Larry (Laura) Evenson, Grand Forks, ND; Duane (Karen) Evenson, Amarillo, TX; mother-in-law Margie Kilichowski, Minto, ND. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Randall Deitz and father-in-law Richard Kilichowski, brother-in-law Walter Deitz, niece Jill Kilichowski, great nephews, Michael Neisen and Ryan Hegg.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Wednesday until 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Minto American Legion Post #201.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
