Alpha S. Peterson

Alpha S. Peterson, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River surrounded by her family. Alpha S. Wang was born May 21, 1919 in Oak Park Township near Oslo, MN the daughter of the late Adolph and Sophie (Verlarud) Wang. She grew up and attended schools there. On November 25, 1940 Alpha was united in marriage to Melvin Peterson in East Grand Forks, MN. The couple spent their entire married life residing in Park River. Alpha worked in the kitchen in the Park River elementary school for many years and assisted her husband with the janitorial duties at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Melvin passed away on May 22, 1984. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and WELCA and the Park River American Legion Auxiliary for 59 years. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Yvonne (Gerald) Lorton, Park River, ND; grandchildren: Kim (Scott) Helt, Rochester, MN; Michael (Deena) Lorton, Park River, ND; great grandchildren: Stephanie and Katie both of Rochester, MN and Meghan Lorton of Park River, ND and sister Verna Lien, Worthington, MN. Alpha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: John, Clarence, and Gilbert and sisters: Myrtle Penas and Lila Lien. Funeral services will be Friday, February 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River.
