Allen H. Myrvik

Allen H. Myrvik, age 80 of Fairdale, ND passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center of Osnabrock, ND. Allen H. Myrvik was born April 24, 1930 at Edmore, ND the son of the late Nils and Olga (Samdahl) Myrvik. He attended Highland township school near Fairdale. He entered the United States Army on November 15, 1951 and served as a rifleman in the 3rd Infantry, Division 7th Regiment, 2nd Battalion during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on august 15, 1953. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster. Allen was very proud to serve his country. Following his discharge he returned to Edmore and worked on various farms. Allen was united in marriage to Berniece Haraseth on January 15, 1954 at Devils Lake, ND. The couple lived near Edmore where he worked for various farmers, then later worked at the Farmers Union in Fairdale for 12 years. He farmed for 29 years and drove the Highway Contract Mail Route for 13 years. Allen retired from farming in 1994 and the couple moved into Fairdale in 1996. Because of ill health, Allen retired from the mail route in 2003. Allen was a member of the Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church of Fairdale, ND and the Fairdale American Legion Post. He is survived by his wife Berniece, Fairdale, ND; children: Beverly Anderson, Fargo, ND; Lyle Myrvik, Minot, ND; Gene (Sheila) Myrvik, Fairdale, ND; Bradley (Lois) Myrvik, Edmore, ND; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and sister Myrtle (Clint) Hanson, Lander, WY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and an infant sister. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church of Fairdale, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Silvesta Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fairdale. Military rites will be provided by the Fairdale and Park River American Legion Posts and the North Dakota National Guard.
