Alice M. Rustan

Alice M. Rustan, age 95 of Milton, ND passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014. Alice M. Nelson was born March 19, 1919 in Osnabrock Township of Cavalier County the daughter of the late Peter and Hazel (Knight) Nelson. Her mother died in child birth and Alice was raised by her father and step-mother, Thea Myrvik Nelson. She attended school in Osnabrock Township and graduated from Nekoma High School. Alice began nursing studies at the University of North Dakota and then moved to Montevideo, MN and worked for the Register of Deeds. Alice was united in marriage to Orville Rustan on July 5, 1943 in Montevideo. The couple moved to Montrose Township of Cavalier County where they lived and farmed. Orville died February 17, 1994 and Alice continued to make her home in Milton. Alice was a member of the Milton Lutheran Church and WELCA, the Milton Hilltoppers Senior Center and the Order of Eastern Star. Alice enjoyed her life on the farm, but love of family was paramount in her life, and she was a loving, devoted and fun wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She is survived by her daughters: Faye (Kenneth) Olafson, Milton, ND; Terry Rustan, Grand Forks, ND; Gloria (Curtis) Steinolfson, Milton, ND; five grandchildren: Scott (Shari) Olafson, Kate (Nelson) Wright, Dori Kate (Jeremy) Heck, Natalie (Tyler) Cameron and Maxwell Bourasaw; five great grandchildren: Madison, Alexander, and Macy Wright and Sean and Savanna Fitches. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, and four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Milton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Union, North Dakota.
