Alice Karas, age 92 of Grafton, ND and formerly of Lankin, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Alice Votava was born May 3, 1921 in Conway, ND the daughter of the late James and Mary (Kotaska) Votava. She attended school in Eden Township. Following her education she worked in places in Conway and Minneapolis, MN. Alice was united in marriage to John Karas on June 30, 1943 in Conway. The couple lived and farmed in Norton Township for 68 years. John passed away on August 11, 2011. Alice was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society of Lankin, a member of the Lankin American Legion Auxiliary and served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Alice is survived by her children: Jack (Dorothy) Karas, Lankin, ND; David (Pat) Karas, Larimore, ND; Randy (Doris) Karas, Lakota, ND; Mary (Larry) Griecar, Grand Forks, ND; Evonne (Hancel) Altendorf, Grafton, ND; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Angeline Swehla. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
