Alda R. Nygard, age 99 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Alda R. Steen was born March 14, 1910 in Gardar Township, near Edinburg, ND. Alda attended rural school in Lampton Township. She was united in marriage to Edwin L. Nygard on April 4, 1928 in Grafton, ND. The couple lived and farmed near Edinburg. Edwin also owned and operated the Massey Ferguson Implement and Nygard's Garage. The couple retired in 1970. Edwin died November 25, 1975. Alda continued to live in Edinburg until December of 2004 when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Park River.
Alda is survived by her children: Orlyn (Sharon) Nygard, Edinburg, ND; Vonnie Cernik, Fargo, ND; Sharon (Charles) Troftgruben, Fargo, ND; Nancy Ludwick, Clermont, FL; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren and sisters: Julia Lee, Edinburg, ND and Lenore Windingland, Mountain, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Aldys; sons-in-law: Gene Cernik and Paul Benjaminson and siblings: Anna, Mary, Emma, Amanda, Carrie, Alfred, Myrtle, Glenn, Axel, Olga and two infant sisters.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 20, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Free Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Trinity Cemetery in Edinburg.
The family would prefer memorials to the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
