Mildred G. Owen

Mildred G. Owen, age 88 of Park River, ND, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at her home under hospice care. Mildred G. Gronos was born September 12, 1925 in Rugby, ND, the daughter of the late George and Esther (Hittle) Gronos. She grew up and attended school in Wolford, ND and graduating from Wolford High school. In 1943 she began attending the Nurse Cadet Corps and completed her training in Rugby, Minot and Chicago. She graduated in 1946 in Rugby and was united in marriage to the love of her life, Delvin Owen, on October 21, 1946 in Bismarck, ND. Following their marriage the couple farmed for a short time and in 1950 moved to Fargo where she began working as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital. In 1953 the couple moved to Adams, ND and in 1960 she began working as an OB nurse in Grafton. She worked for various places as a nurse and delivered many babies until she retired in 1979. After her retirement from nursing, she began helping her husband with Owen Oil. She is a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River and a former member of Adams Mountain Lutheran Church and the St. Ansgar's Hospital Auxiliary. Although she loved nursing, her family was always number one in her life. She always had a positive attitude and a special touch with babies. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Delvin, Park River, ND, children: Connie (Bill) Anderson, Krebs, OK, Karen (Bob) Tescher, Bismarck, ND, Mark (Naomi) Owen, Apple Valley, MN, Kathleen (Mark) Bestul, Happy Valley, OR, Kim (Cindy) Owen, West Fargo, ND, Michael (Beverly) Owen, Baxter, MN, Rebecca (James) Chyle, Park River, ND, Daniel Owen, Grand Forks, ND, 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, brother: Gary (Sandra) Gronos, Hot Springs, AR, sister-in-laws: Ramona Gronos, Beverly Gronos, Althea Gronos, Carmen Schneeman, brother-in-laws: Paul Owen and Louis Owen, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son David, granddaughter Bobbi Morrison, grandson Christian Keys, brothers: George, Kenneth, James, and Roger, and sister-in-laws: Margurite "Peggy" Owen, Shirley Owen, and Helen Owen. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be on Monday, from 5-7, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
